Genre referencing is not new to Nigerian music. With most artists skinny dipping in the pool of techno, house, and euro-pop, very few look past the 90s for inspiration. Black Magic however is a different story.

Black magic could honestly be the only consicious rapper in the Nigerian music scene – combining funk, afro beat, and old school hip-hop in his music. Obviously influenced by hip hop legends such as Pete Rock & C.L Smooth, Guru,Common and J. Dilla, he sets himself apart from many of his peers in the mainstream.

The single ‘Rainbow’ superbly refernces from the 70s with a driving funky bass line laced with a laissez-faire rap style that smells of summertime. A must while cruising around town looking for that nocturnal spot. Enjoy.
