With the proliferation of Nigerian tunes dominating the airwaves and the club scene, clubbing in Abuja can be quite a touch and go affair if you’re looking for a slice of the alternative. One or two venues such as Soho Lounge and Casalinda throw an old school night for the gramps and grannies that use to rock a fade, high tops, denim jackets and seriously tight lycra. Got to love the 90s.

For most young Nigerians, ‘oldskool’ would comprise of Bobby Brown,Salt n Pepper,Teddy Riley and Montell Jordon who were all part of the New Jack movement. New-Jack swing did not command main-stream appeal. It was raw, rugged, and fast and depicted the modern day realities of black America.

Below is a mix by Dj Anonymous of some of the most well known New Jack swing tracks. Certainly a track or two to be nostalgic about and get you moving for the weekend. Smelling a 90s dress up party not to far off.Any takers?
